Physical Education

Work hard, play hard

Physical education inspires a lifelong enjoyment and understanding of physical activity. Developing confidence, physical and mental wellbeing, team work and collaboration skills.

‘Physical education aims to develop pupils’ physical competence, confidence, and enjoyment of physical activity. It encourages pupils to be physically active for sustained periods, engage in competitive and cooperative activities, and develop fundamental movement skills. Through PE, pupils learn the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle and build skills such as teamwork, resilience, and fair play that support their overall physical and mental wellbeing.’ Adapted from National Curriculum, DfE, 2014.

We aim to inspire a lifelong interest in physical activity, health, and well-being by engaging and motivating all learners to create ongoing habits in leading healthy, active lifestyles. Through a progressive curriculum, we develop knowledge, technical proficiency, and tactical understanding across a range of recreational and competitive sports. Students participate in a broad and balanced programme of physical activities, including both traditional and alternative sports. Alongside physical development, we promote personal qualities, fitness, and cognitive skills, enabling learners to perform effectively and to critically evaluate their own performance and that of others. We provide a vast range of inter- and intra-house competitions, within and outside of lessons, along with an extensive extracurricular programme. In Key Stage 4, students select a pathway to further develop lifelong participation and healthy lifestyles, with opportunities to pursue qualifications in Sport Science and/or Health and Social Care.
