Winifred Holtby Academy offers a range of extra-curricular activities open to all pupils, which take place at the end of the Academy day (2.50pm), at weekends and during the holiday periods. By participating in these activities, considerable benefits are gained by pupils and the working relationships between pupils and teachers are greatly enhanced.

Musical instrument lessons
Pupils at Winifred Holtby Academy benefit from peripatetic instrument lessons. These are available in a variety of instruments such as: Percussion, Piano, Voice, Guitar, Cello, Violin and Woodwind. Through this pupils have the option of taking graded examinations in classical or popular styles. If you wish for your child to learn a musical instrument, this tuition is bought in from Hull Music Service. This is heavily subsidised by the Academy, current charges are: KS3 - £80 per term, KS4 and not studying Music GCSE/BTEC courses - £80 per term, KS4 and studying Music GCSE/BTEC - £40 per term.
All pupils looked after by the Local Authority (within the meaning of section 22(I) of the Children Act 1989) will be eligible for this tuition free of charge.

Family Learning Days
Each holiday period our families and the local community have the opportunity to come into the Academy and take part in a variety of activities such as: mask making, wheelchair basketball and sugar crafts. There is also the opportunity to meet new people and chat over a cup of tea – each family learning day has a different theme depending on the time of year.

This is an annual competition between schools/academies and youth organisations – we have entered for the past 7 years and have been very successful. We became Rock Challenge 2016 champions.

Partnership ‘City of Culture 2017’ team
Our school has signed up to the ‘No Limits’ programme, which gives us the chance to offer opportunities to our pupils that they wouldn’t normally get. We have a group of pupils currently working with an Author in Residence on a weekly basis with the aim of creating an Anthology and another two groups are working with the ‘My Pockets’ company on a puppet project, which has really got their imaginations fired up.

A day when Hull's finest athletes descend on Costello Stadium. WHA athletics teams from years 7-10 compete against the other schools in the city. A great event and one which shows the fantastic team spirit and camaraderie our pupils possess.
