On Friday 24th March teams from Winifred Holtby took part in the Race for the Line Rocket Car Challenge that we hosted. Pupils from years 7,8,9 and 10 designed, shaped, programmed and painted foam cars to see who could create the fastest car.
The cars had a BBC microbit computer on board which used an accelerometer which communicated with a light gate to log the speed.
The project aims to highlight not only the importance of Computer Science but the varied skills within the Army who were on hand to manage the pyrotechnics (gun powder) and answer lots of really good questions about their job.
The winning car was made by year 7 girls. Congratulations to Imogen, Lillie, Francesca and Courtney.
