Our Streets Book Launch

Over the course of this year, a selection of Year 7 and 8 pupils have been working with First Story to create their own published anthology. On Friday 7th July, our pupils launched ‘Our Streets’ by arranging a fabulous evening of readings, dramatisations and music. The theme of the night was ‘Roots and Routes,’ where students showcased the highlights of growing up in Hull. Therefore the audience were taken on a journey through Hull’s key landmarks such as the Fair, Humber Bridge and Humberside airport – but were also reminded of local delicacies such as ‘Pattie and Chips’ and ‘Chip Spice.’

I was exceptionally proud of all pupils tonight. If our young people can continue communicating with the conviction and confidence they displayed last night, they are certainly going to go far!”
— Mr Latham

Mrs. Stanforth who also attended the evening stated “The pupils were really impressive,” and Mr. Anderson commented on the unusual yet effective collaboration between Team English and Team CPA by noting “it was great to see the profile of prose and poetry raised within the Academy – having its place on stage under the spotlight with an audience.”

Special thanks need to go to Mr. Anderson and his CPA student team for bringing the pupils’ written work to life, Mrs. Hoy for organising all logistics behind the event, Mr. Latham and First Story for working with our young writers throughout the course of this year, Mrs. Oliver for assisting the First Story project and running a raffle on launch night, Mr. Nicholson for working on publicity/marketing, and finally to Mrs. Stanforth and Miss. Brankley for their support on the night.
