As we approach Year 9 your child has the opportunity to express a preference for courses that they wish to study towards important public examinations at the end of Key Stage 4.
Your child will have received Key Stage 4 Course Information Guide in Assembly. Please take the time to discuss with your child which courses they would prefer to study to GCSE level as it is now the time to make choices.
Some subjects are statutory. This means that every pupil will study Maths, English and Science to GCSE level and every pupil will continue to study PE and PSHCE.
A range of other subjects can be chosen that make up a full package of GCSE or equivalent outcomes.
All pupils must study either Geography or History in addition to the core curriculum. The Government expect the majority of pupils to study an EBacc Curriculum that includes a Modern Foreign Language and either History or Geography. We have made recommendations for pupils who we believe that this is the appropriate Curriculum for.
At the Options Evening presentation’s in the Theatre will run throughout the evening, explaining the different options available to pupils, the first commencing at 4.15pm. Presentation’s will then run at half hourly intervals; 4.45pm, 5.15pm, 5.45pm and 6.15pm. Option forms will be handed out to pupils on arrival through the main entrance. After this there will be an opportunity to visit each of the subject areas to meet staff. Ideally the completed option forms will be handed in before you leave Academy.
Option forms handed in after the 28th March may result in pupils not receiving their first choices if subjects are full.
If you are unable to make this time, please contact your child’s house team so that they can arrange an alternative presentation for you.
If you require child care for younger siblings, a crèche will be available in the LRC.
