year-11-ppe-advert.jpg

Thursday 21st March 2019 (4.00pm – 7.00pm)

The Year 11 pupils have now completed their final set of Pre-Public Examinations and there is a relatively short time left before they take their vital GCSEs. Your child will have applied for their college courses or apprenticeship and entry will of course depend on the outcome of their Summer exams.

This Parents’ consultation evening allows us to share information and discuss essential preparation for GCSEs to ensure that our young people are as successful as they can be.

All appointments will take place in either the main Forum area or in the Theatre/Activity Studio and we ask that you enter the Academy by the Main Entrance.

On arrival in the Academy you will be able to collect your child’s current levels of progress and attendance.

In addition to this, the results of the Pre-Public Examinations will be issued so you will have a clear idea of how well your child is progressing towards those final GCSE’s.

There will also be representatives from the local colleges and other organisations in the Orangery who will clarify any remaining questions that you may have regarding Post 16 progression.

Your child has been asked to arrange appointments with their subject teachers at times that are convenient. Please check to ensure they have done so as it will enable this important evening to run smoothly.

Please note revision guides will be available to purchase on the night by cash sale if you have not already done so; these can also be purchased via ParentPay. If you purchase these via ParentPay they will be ready to collect from the Revision Guides table located on the way into the Orangery.

Year 7 Parent Consultation Evening

Wednesday 13th February 2019, 4.00pm – 7.00pm

We would like to invite you to your child’s Parental Consultation Evening. This evening is an opportunity for you to discuss in detail your child’s current attainment, attendance, attitude and progress in the different subject areas. It is important that you make every effort to attend as success in Year 7 will underpin future academic success for your child at Winifred Holtby Academy.

You will receive your child’s attainment and progress information and subject teachers will explain how well things are going in class and what needs to be done for further progress. Year 7 pupils are developing skills for success by working towards learner profile targets. We would strongly recommend that you attend a Learner Profile for Parents briefing which lasts for around 15 minutes. These sessions will take place in Mrs Drury’s classroom located to the right of the Forum (Prefects and staff will be on hand to direct you) at 5.00pm and 5.45pm.

Your child has been given an appointment sheet – please check that they are arranging appointments with their subject teachers, however, staff will make every effort to see you with or without appointments.

On arrival at the Academy please enter through the main entrance where you will be supplied with the ‘Pupil Progress report’. Academy Assistant Prefects will be on hand throughout the evening to guide you.

If your contact details/medical information has changed, please complete a form, which will be available from the House Teams. If you feel you may be eligible for free school meals you can apply on line through the Hull City Council Website: www.hullcc.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals

If you require child care for younger siblings, a crèche will be available on the night, this will be located in the LRC. As always, we look forward to meeting you on the evening.

Year 8 Parent Consultation Evening – Wednesday 16th January 2019, 4.00 – 7.00pm.

We would like to invite you to your child’s Parental Consultation Evening. This evening is an opportunity for you to discuss in detail your child’s current attainment, attendance, attitude and progress in the different subject areas.

Success in Year 8 will underpin future academic success for your child at Winifred Holtby Academy as your child will be choosing their options in March. Their attainment and behaviour in subjects this year must reflect their desire to study the subject at a higher level.

This evening will allow you to receive current attainment data and an update on your child’s progress through the year. Now that National Curriculum levels have been replaced with Progress measures this data will show how well the children are performing in relation to the new GCSE levels and help to inform you about whether subjects are suitable for your child to continue studying in KS4.

On the evening you will be provided with a ‘Pupil’s Progress Report’ which will form the basis for your discussion

Your child has been given an appointment sheet – please check that they are arranging appointments with their subject teachers, however, staff will make every effort to see you with or without appointments.

Wednesday 12th December 2018 (4.00pm – 7.00pm)

This is the most important parents evening of your child’s time in Secondary education as it is now only a few short months before our Year 11 pupils take their final examinations and move on to the next phase of their lives.

This Parents’ consultation evening allows us to share information and plan the remainder of Year 11 together to ensure that our young people are as successful as they can be. I am sure that I do not need to stress the importance of meeting with subject teachers at this point in the academic year.

All appointments will take place in either the main Forum area or in the Theatre/Activity Studio and we ask that you enter the Academy by the Main Entrance.

On arrival in the Academy you will be able to collect your child’s current levels of progress and attendance.

In addition to this, the much anticipated results of the Pre-Public Examinations will be issued so you will have a clear idea of how well your child is progressing towards those final GCSE’s.

There will also be representatives from the local colleges and other organisations in the Orangery who will be glad to answer any questions that you may have regarding Post 16 progression.

If these representatives are able to see the PPE results they will be able to provide sound advice on the best future pathways for your child.

Your child has been asked to arrange appointments with their subject teachers at times that are convenient. Please check to ensure they have done so as it will enable this important evening to run smoothly.

Please note revision guides will be available to purchase on the night if you have not already done so; these can also be purchased via ParentPay, if you purchase these via ParentPay they will be ready to collect on the night from the ‘pre ordered’ table located on the way into the Orangery.

Year 10 Parent/Carer Consultation Evening

y10-logo.jpg

Your child is now almost half way through their GCSE and BTEC examination courses at Winifred Holtby Academy and it is vital that subject teachers have the opportunity to discuss their current progress and attainment.

The consultation meetings will give you the opportunity to discuss such issues as coursework completion deadlines, class work, homework tasks, extra-curricular opportunities, attitudes to learning and how you as a parent/carer can assist your child in making progress.

On the evening you will be provided with a ‘report’ indicating the progress your child has made. An attendance certificate will also be issued; if there are any unauthorised absences you should see a member of your child’s House Team on the evening to clear up the attendance record as this information can be requested for references to employers and post 16 providers at the end of year 11.

On arrival at the Academy please enter through the main entrance where you will be supplied with the pupil progress report, attendance information and details of where teachers can be found. Academy prefects will be on hand throughout the evening to guide you.

A number of colleges and employers will be attending the event to discuss future opportunities for your child. Please take the time to speak to them between teacher appointments.

As with most Parents Evenings, it is our intention to offer child care facility, this will be located in the Library.

We look forward to seeing you on the evening.

Your son/daughter will be given an appointment booking sheet in tutor lesson, it would be in their best interest to complete the booking sheet as soon as possible by visiting each of their subject teachers.  This will then ensure that they get an appointment with each teacher and will help to avoid disappointment if the bookings fill up.

Thank you.

Core Subject Revision Night

y11 logo.jpg

Please note: This is an invitation only event.

Dear Parent / Carer

I am personally writing to invite you and your child to a session showing pupils how to revise for their Core subject GCSE examinations.

Revising before exams is proven to raise pupils’ grades and therefore it is important that pupils know how to successfully revise. The session will focus on giving information and techniques about how to revise for exams and how, as parents, you can support this. This session will provide each pupil with a personalised revision pack and a free revision stationary kit. A selection of free drinks and snacks will be available for pupils and parents.

Parents will not be required to undertake any work throughout the session; your role is to support your child with the process of revision. It is important that parents / carers and pupils attend this 1-hour session; revision techniques will be shown and pupils will be given personal resources in which they can use to optimise their revising.

Below are some comments from our previous sessions:

I was apprehensive about this due to the school being not very memorable time for me but as my child is showing positive signs in his schooling I came along. The session was very informative and not at all what I was expecting. Now I can help my child even if I don’t understand the work so much due to understanding the revision booklets given today. Well worth an hour of my time.”
— Parent

  • “It was a good session, would recommend all parents to attend future sessions.”

  • “Enjoyed it, it helped me to understand things better, Thanks for the help”

The two options are as follows:

  • OPTION 1: Thursday 26th October 4:30pm–5:30pm
  • OPTION 2: Thursday 26th October 6:00pm–7:00pm

Thank you for your support.
