Christmas Concert

Team CPA ended 2017 with a fantastic Christmas Concert which showcased some of the best talent in Art, Dance, Drama and Music at the Academy. The concert opened with a video to remind everyone of what a fantastic year 2017 has been with Hull as the City of Culture:

This was followed by a poignant reminder of the people less fortunate at Christmas time with a montage of images to an emotional live performance of Emelie Sande’s ‘Read all about it’. The rest of the show followed the journey of Scrooge in five Acts with a mixture of song and dance in between, taking the audience on a journey from Scrooge’s hatred of Christmas to a series of revelations which inspire Scrooge to change his ways and embrace Christmas. This culminated in an uplifting finale of ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ which got all of the audience clapping and joining in the Christmas Spirit. The scenes of celebration from participating pupils, and the cheers from the audience, rounded off a magical night of a collective celebration of the Arts, which is exactly what being the City of Culture 2017 has all been about.

All of the pupils performed amazingly well and it was great to see another almost packed house of parents, family, friends and staff share in the celebration. All of the pupils who took part should be very proud of themselves as everyone associated with Team CPA is- you are future stars!

On behalf of Team CPA I would just like to thank all pupils, family, friends and staff for your continued support of all of the CPA events this year! It’s been an incredible year with so many events and performance opportunities organised and here’s to many more fantastic performance opportunities in 2018! Keep following Team CPA and watch this space!

Hope you all have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas Carol

Year 7 and 8 Learning Support pupils have been studying ‘A Christmas Carol’ this half term and performed their own production of the Dickens classic for their parents and staff. The pupils worked incredibly hard to remember their lines and their production was a huge success. All the parents and staff were very proud!

One Hull of a Christmas

On Wednesday 14th December 2016, we celebrated the Christmas period with our annual Christmas Concert/Showcase.

For the very first time the event was solely organised by the pupils. The Pupil Leadership Team in CPA, alongside the Year 10 BTEC Music pupils, ran the event which was a celebration of Art, Drama and Music.

The showcase included a display of Art work in the Orangery as well as a combination of Music and Drama performances in the Community Theatre. The Drama performances followed the narrative of Christmas time in Hull and was accompanied by a variety of festive songs. The event was entitled ‘One Hull of a Christmas’ as it followed a Hull theme to recognise and celebrate Hull’s upcoming year as the City of Culture in 2017. All the proceeds from the event went to Cancer Research UK.

2017 promises to be an exciting year for the City of Hull as the City of Culture, as well as for the Pupil Leadership Team in CPA who now move on to organising their next event: ‘Made in Hull’- watch this space!

Christmas Lunch

On Wednesday 14th December Winifred Holtby pupils and staff had their Christmas lunch and as is customary they invited some of the local community to join them – lunch was followed by an afternoon showing of our Christmas concert, with songs from both Tweendykes and Winifred Holtby pupils.

Our guests said they had thoroughly enjoyed themselves and would be back again next year.
