Key Stage 3 Assessment
Parents/carers will receive assessment data twice during the academic year. This will include progress data from the core curriculum, attitude to learning information and improvement targets.
The progress data will indicate if a student is working above, at or below the level that we expect at a particular time. We base our expectations on Key Stage 2 data and what we know about the student.
CENTRE ASSESSMENT GRADES (CAG)
The CAG is the school’s professional judgement of the most likely grade a student would have achieved if exams had gone ahead. It is based on a range of evidence including mock exams, non-exam assessment, assignments and any other record of student performance over the course of study.
Teachers, subject leaders and senior leaders worked together to carefully assess this information before making a judgement on the most likely grade. Those grades were moderated and checked multiple times to ensure accuracy. I would like to reassure you that the Centre Assessment Grades submitted by Winifred Holtby Academy were determined as a result of a robust and ethical internal process.
The grades submitted were then standardised by the exam boards using a model developed by Ofqual and this may have resulted in the award of a higher grade.
On Thursday 20th August, students will receive whichever grade is higher and this is the grade they will see on their results sheet.
We have not been provided with the final grade for the OCR Level 2 Cambridge National in Sports Studies. We have provided the centre assessment grade for this qualification and as soon as we are in receipt of the confirmed grade from the exam board, it will be posted to the students. We are expecting to receive these on Tuesday 25th August.
UPDATE: Pearson have now confirmed that the BTEC results will be issued by Friday 28th August and they will be posted out to all BTEC students by the Academy on Friday. #WHA
When we submitted the CAGs, we used all the information available to us in school. If you or your child feel that they would have performed better on the day of the exam than the grade suggests, they may choose to sit the exam in the Autumn term. We are not able to change the Centre Assessment Grades and Ofqual have confirmed that students cannot challenge them through an appeal.
Currently, the exam boards are proposing to offer a full range of exams in most subjects. If you wish to consider doing this, please contact: email@example.com
We welcome the decision made by Government and Ofqual and feel that it was the only fair and sensible path forward.
