Outstanding attitudes to learning

At the end of last half term, it was a pleasure to reward Danni, Ellie, Ryan, Katie and Jordan with their Principal’s Commendation for achieving the highest number of House Points so far. Their day-to-day conduct and behaviour around the Academy are exemplary and they have demonstrated outstanding attitudes to learning. Well done to you all!

I have been keen for pupils to experience a much wider range of activities beyond the Academy day and for this reason our first outdoor activity residential is taking place this week involving 174 Year 8 pupils and staff from the academy. They are spending 3 days at the Dearne Valley Outdoor Education Centre and experiencing a wide range of outdoor activities. In addition to the great activities on offer, pupils will benefit hugely from working together, supporting each other and facing challenges that they wouldn’t normally experience here. I look forward to sharing pictures and quotes from the pupils and staff with you on the website when they return.

Our Year 11 pupils are now well into the first round of Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs). These are a really important set of internal examinations that provide both staff and pupils with crucial information about how well they are doing and what areas need further support and intervention. For some it will inevitably be a wakeup call and hopefully encourage them to step-up a gear in the run up to the final examinations in the summer. However, we have a huge range of additional support sessions available through our Lesson 6 provision and I would ask parents and carers to encourage attendance at these. We also know that the run-up to GCSE examinations can be a stressful time for parents and carers so please keep an eye out for further support and information from the academy. If you require any specific information, guidance or support, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Spencer at the Academy who will be only too pleased to help. It is vital that Parents and Carers attend the Year 11 information evening on Tuesday 12th December. Pupils will receive the results of their PPEs at the event and a there will be further support and information available from academy staff and post-16 providers.

Thank you for your continued support

Mr Brown
