At Winifred Holtby Academy, our collective educational philosophy is clear: we must deliver a first class educational experience to all pupils.
Highly successful schools and academies by their very nature are able to bring out the best in everyone at every level– they operate in such an effective way that success is not something that happens by chance – but it is inevitable. Every child, irrespective of background and circumstance, has the right to be educated in an effective school. It is this belief that forms our core principle.
At Winifred Holtby Academy, we recognise and understand the positive impact an effective teacher has on the learning and progress a pupil makes. What happens in the classroom, workshop, and gymnasium or on the sports field is at the centre of everything we do, and we believe that we should always endeavour to be the best we can be.
Following our recent internal review of teaching and learning at Winifred Holtby Academy we have established four priorities for the 2018 - 19 academic year:
The WHA way: our core 'non-negotiables' underpin what makes effective teaching and ensures consistency of expectations in the classroom
Planning for Progression: ensuring teachers have highly personalised strategies to ensure all pupils make rapid progress
Assessment for Learning: the bridge between teaching and learning - ensuring that teachers use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons
Challenge: ensuring pupils are challenged through highly effective questioning and the application of Purple Pen Tasks
