The Academy day is set out in the format as shown below. The Academy day begins at 8.45am, although pupils are expected to arrive no later than 8.35am to ensure that lessons start promptly.

Break: 10.45am - 11.00am
Period 3: 11.00am - 12.00pm
Period 4: *Lunch 1: 12.00pm - 1.00pm
Lunch 1: 12.00pm - 12.30pm
Lunch 2: 1.00pm - 1.30pm
Period 4: *Lunch 2: 12.30pm - 1.30pm
Period 5: 1.30pm - 2.30pm
Assembly/Tutorial Period: 2.30pm - 2.50pm
Twilight Opportunities: 2.50pm onwards
The Academy runs a breakfast club before the Academy day begins. The breakfast club is located in DT1 (Monday to Wednesday) and DT4 (Thursday and Friday), and gives pupils the opportunity to learn about healthy options and to make their own breakfast.
Break time begins at 10.45am and finishes at 11.00am, although pupils are expected to start their journey to their lesson at 10.55am. During break times, pupils are able to purchase hot and cold snacks from the serving areas, and are also able to socialise either in the Forum, Orangery, or in the outside social areas. The outside social areas also comprise of sporting facilities where pupils can play a variety of sporting games. Each area is well supervised by Winifred Holtby Academy staff.
At break time, pupils are able to order their lunchtime food via the 'Swipe and Collect' service provided by our catering providers ISS. This service allows pupils to order their food at either break time or before the Academy day begins, and collect their food from the serving area between the Forum and Orangery. **Please note that this is only available for cold meals.
At Winifred Holtby Academy, we operate split lunchtimes. Lunch period 1 begins at 12.00pm and finishes at 12.30pm. Lunch period 2 begins at 1.00pm and finishes at 1.30pm. During lunch, pupils are able to purchase - using their cashless catering cards - hot or cold meals, from one of our 3 serving hatches.
Winifred Holtby Academy offers a range of extra-curricular activities open to all pupils, which take place at the end of the Academy day (2.50pm), at weekends and during the holiday periods. By participating in these activities, considerable benefits are gained by pupils and the working relationships between pupils and teachers are greatly enhanced.
